We currently have a new permanent opportunity for a talented Head of Rents and Service Charges to lead and develop our established service within this important area of Finance.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a high quality rent and service charge accounting service to the business. We are looking for people who are able to demonstrate their knowledge and experience of leading a service delivery function, motivating and developing a team and have significant knowledge of rent and service charge processes, controls and legislation. 

The new Head of Rents and Service Charges will also need to be a great communicator and must be able to confidently engage and influence people at all levels across the organisation to ensure we achieve our objectives.

Overview of the team

Reporting to the Director of Financial Services, the Head of Rents & Service Charges will be responsible for a team of 18. This is currently made up of 3 Rents and Service Charge Supervisors and 14 Finance Officers.  There are 5 other Heads of Service within the Financial Services Team and you will work closely with colleagues to provide a high level of service to the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be accountable for and deliver a full rent and service charge accounting service across Guinness within agreed timescales and service standards.
  • Lead and manage a performance driven culture within the team by driving continuous improvements service, establishing plans, setting targets and developing individual skills and experience within the team.
  • Establish appropriate controls and simplicity in both system and processes.
  • Manage the development and maintain the integrity of Guinness’s rent and service charge setting applications, systems and spreadsheets, ensuring they remain robust, fit for purpose and deliver an efficient, effective service to internal and external customers.
  • Lead and manage the annual budget setting process and annual financial statement production for rents and service charges across Guinness; deliver accurate and timely information to stakeholders.
  • Establish positive and strong relationships between the team and other departments driving VfM with efficient processes.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors and resolve all audit queries effectively and within the timescales required.
  • Maintain an up to date knowledge of rent and service charge regulation; assessing the impact of changes in regulation and cascading this across Guinness as required.
  • Develop and manage a plan of continuous improvements to the customer experience including system improvements. 


  • Proven experience of leading on implementation of administrative systems and able to clearly demonstrate improvements made.
  • Demonstrate strong managerial experience in service delivery leading, motivating and developing a team, including setting and achieving challenging targets.
  • Experience of Rent and Service charge accounting in a substantial and complex organisation.
  • Experience of working in the Social Housing Sector.
  • Experience of Rent & Service charge setting applications for example Ensemble/QUBE.
  • Knowledge of rent and service charge legislation and regulations and differing tenure types.
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills with ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload to meet agreed deadlines.
  • Experience of reviewing, assimilating and analysing a range of information (including financial) and reporting on results.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent oral and written communications.
  • Demonstrate the Guinness Behaviours.
  • Demonstrate the Guinness Leadership and Management standards.
  • Educated to degree level


  • Experience of using Oracle Financials.
  • Experience of project management accountability and delivery, with proven ability to meet challenges with varied deadlines of complex processes.
  • CCAB qualified
